When we first began our natural haircare transition and journey together, my daughter and I were OBSESSED with YOUTUBE tutorials, blogs, vlogs, style demonstrations and tips for naturalistas. We LITERALLY spent HOURS watching these videos and reading articles. lol. It was fun…and educational.
One of the biggest challenges for us, however; was just learning the lingo. Heck, we’re several months into our journey and we just learned what TWA stood for! Funny story…but I’ll save that for another NoLye post. Many blogs urge naturals to “co-wash” regularly so my daughter and I looked at each other and said, “Ok, what’s a co-wash and how do you do it?”

This type of washing avoids harsh results from frequent washing with shampoos that contain detergents like sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate, and helps to keep natural black hair soft and manageable. Here’s a great YOUTUBE video by DelightfulJOY that demonstrates the process:

Co-washing is a technique used to cleanse the hair and scalp. It promotes moisture and makes detangling much easier for some. Because it enhances moisture curl definition is also enhanced. it’s a great alternative to washing as shampoos contain detergents that strip moisture from hair.
